Guide - How to upgrade airsoft / AIRSOFT?

Do you want to boost your AEG´s performance? More power, longer range, faster rate of fire, and better accuracy? Yes, please!

NOTE: Opening/Modifying internal components like the Gearbox will void warranty/claim rights.

The fastest and easiest upgrades

Precision Barrel

Normally, rifles have a barrel with a diameter of 6.03mm - 6.05mm. So here, you can upgrade to a precision barrel which usually has a diameter of 6.01mm. Essentially the size of the BB pellet. This leads to more of the airflow going behind the pellet instead of around it. It will thus shoot the BB pellet out with a slightly higher muzzle velocity and the pellet should in principle also be more accurate!

Hop-up Rubber

Hop-up rubber plays a big role in how far the pellet travels and how consistent the rifle shoots, it can potentially double the range of the pellets! There are many different types of hop-up rubber. Here are brands like Maple Leaf, Prometheus, and Novritsch some of the best you can find in the market right now!

"Soft" hop-up rubber is intended for speeds between 250-400 fps, while "hard" hop-up rubber is basically intended for speeds over 400 fps.

It's time to change the hop-up rubber if you notice that the rifle has lost power. This could indicate that the hop-up rubber is not airtight (air leakage). You should also change it if you notice that the hop-up doesn't "grip" the bullet and lift it up, no matter how high you set the hop-up. A rule of thumb for good precision is to change the hop-up after about 15,000 shots. You significantly extend its lifespan by using silicone oil. We recommend Ultrair Silicone Spray. Note, after lubrication, it will take around 200-500 shots before the hop-up rubber has stabilized again and you get optimal range.

Spring

Many rifles today are built to handle stronger springs right out of the box! This applies to most of the rifles we carry from the ASG Scorpion EVO series, as well as Specna Arms, which have gearboxes that can handle up to an M135 spring right out of the box. The easiest rifles to change springs on usually market themselves with "Spring Quick Change". Note. It's important that you do not install a stronger spring than what the gearbox/mechanism is designed for, if you're unsure - send us an email with the model name and which spring you're thinking of upgrading to at post@game-on.no.

Battery

If you switch to a stronger spring, it might also be necessary to get a new and more powerful battery. We recommend a 7.4v Li-Po battery for anything under 400 fps velocity. For over 400 fps, we recommend an 11.1v battery. This ensures that you still have a fast rate of fire, despite the stronger spring. Note. You must not use an 11.1v battery on rifles with weaker exit velocity than 350 fps, as this can make the rate of fire so high that the motor gets damaged.

More difficult upgrades you can do yourself

Replace (parts of) the gearbox

It's possible to upgrade to stronger parts, f.eks titanium gears, which allows the gearbox to handle stronger spring/battery, which in turn results in higher exit velocity and rate of fire.

Note. This is considered the most difficult upgrade one can do. We only recommend those with good technical insight to attempt this. Remember that if you do this yourself, warranty and right to claim will be void. Would you like us to upgrade the gearbox for you? Send us a non-binding email with which parts you want installed and which model it concerns - and you will receive a price estimate in return.

Good luck with the upgrades and Game-On!
