Purchase of large-caliber air guns
Would you like to order an airgun with a caliber of 5.5 mm or higher?
No problem! Read on.
Would you like to order a license-required airgun from our online store and have it shipped to you with Posten/Bring? That's no problem.
However, before we can ship it, we need a couple of things from you.
After placing your order, you must provide your approved digital firearms application along with a copy of your driver's license or passport.
You can order the firearm you want even while waiting for your application to be processed. We will reserve the firearm for you for up to 5 weeks while you arrange the application with the police.
You must apply even if you have permission to purchase/possess large-caliber firearms.
APPLICATION FORM AND PROCESS:
You can find the application form online on the police website. You can find the link to the application by clicking here. The application is then processed by the police/sheriff, who decides whether it will be approved or rejected.
You do not need to be a member of a club or have passed the hunting exam to apply to purchase a registration-required airgun. However, you must have a legitimate purpose for it to be approved. This could, for example, be target practice or target shooting.
AGE LIMIT
The age limit for airguns is 18 years.
THE APPLICATION
An application is valid for 12 months from the date it is approved. This means you have one year to purchase the weapon from when the application is approved. If a dealer has trouble obtaining the weapon you want within this time limit, or if for another reason you are unable to use it within 12 months, the validity can be extended by an additional 6 months. The renewal must be completed by the police before the application expires; otherwise, you must apply again.
Currently, the application fee for an air gun is the same as the fee for applying for permission for a registration-required firearm component, namely NOK 374.

Here are some points that make filling out the application a little easier:
- Your address in the National Population Register determines which police station you should send the application to. If you are unsure, go to this link and enter your postcode under section 3.
It is important that you fill in all your personal information exactly as it is registered in the National Population Register.
- You do not need to decide exactly which firearm you will get. It is enough to write, for example, "Air rifle calibre 5.5 mm (.22)". Remember to state whether it is a semi-automatic rifle or not.It is therefore not necessary to fill in the fields with the factory/brand/model designation and number when you purchase from us as an authorised dealer. If it is a private sale, however, these details must be provided along with the seller’s name and address.
The intended use is what you plan to use the weapon for. Since hunting with air guns is not permitted in Norway, the intended use for air guns will mainly be practice shooting or target shooting
State whether you have an insurance-approved gun safe (FG-approved safe). This is mandatory from the very first weapon. If you have a receipt for purchasing the gun safe, it is a good idea to attach a copy.

REJECTION
There can be several reasons for rejection, including that the applicant is below the required age, has a criminal record, or has specific circumstances that make the applicant unsuitable to possess weapons.Special circumstances are not specified, but they may include mental disorders, alcoholism/medication abuse, or age.
All refusals can be appealed to the Police Department.
Once the application has been processed, it will be sent back to you stamped and signed. You then take the application to the seller, who fills in the necessary information.
